I've been getting my late father's 1985 S10 Blazer 2.8L V6 operational again, including a carburetor rebuild. Before reinstalling it, I was checking out the condition of the spacer gasket under the carburetor. It's the kind with a resistance heater grid in the primary barrel. The heater checks out OK on an ohmmeter, but the gasket isn't in perfect shape. It seems a bit compressed to me, and some of the black coating on it is flaking off.
At least at present, a replacement gasket with the heating element is pretty much NLA. A plain, non-heated gasket is readily available.
I am wondering how important the EFE is. I know it only operates for a couple of minutes when the car has just been started. I live in central North Carolina where it doesn't get that cold. They no longer do tailpipe emissions tests here on cars this old.
Have people deleted the EFE heater without starting problems?

2020.11.29 02:15 ABossnianOtaku How do I stop craving for love and sex?
Hello, 21M here. Never been in a relationship and still a virgin. 0 experience with girls. I was wondering if anyone of you knows any methods on making me stop thinking about love, relationships, sex and all that stuff? I feel like if I somehow stopped thinking about and craving those things, I would have a weight off of my shoulders and it would stop me from feeling extremely lonely.

2020.11.29 02:15 cr722g Hot Topic package lost through Ontrac
Hey y’all. I ordered 4 of the $12 tees on Nov. 22nd and the second I found out that I was getting it delivered through OnTrac I became nervous because that company has the worst reputation. So 11/26 (THANKSGIVING DAY) it says out for delivery and then says delivered at 11:23am thru OnTrac and but Hot Topic says it delivered at 8:20pm. So I thought yknow it’s okay I’ll just check outside, checked nothing was there. Ontrac is closed for service on Thanksgiving so for them to be out for delivery is completely inaccurate. So i called Hot Topic yesterday (11/27) and told them how Ontrac marked delivered on a package on Thanksgiving that I never received. And the customer service rep told me that I have to wait 5 business days for them to file a claim, to get my refund. She did refund me my shipping cost. I just had a question about whether the 5 business day policy is accurate for a refund? I love Hot Topic just sucks that they use a unreliable shipping company.

2020.11.29 02:15 meticulous_bird Looking for advice from anyone who's gone the jaw surgery route after having a bite "fixed" by braces?
I had a pretty severe overjet when I was younger, and my orthodontist told my parents jaw surgery was an option. I ended up with braces instead and a device that moved all of my upper teeth further back into my mouth.
Today I'm still not satisfied with my smile, which up until recently I attributed to my chin, which protrudes out when I smile while my lips and teeth recede back. I had a consult with a maxillofacial surgeon to look into genioplasty, but he told me it wouldn't give the results I wanted and that the issue was actually a vertically undergrown maxilla. He mentioned that I "really would have been a good candidate for surgery over braces," but that I had nice teeth and a good bite anyway.
Now I'm just left wondering... would it be crazy to look into jaw surgery again anyway? It's not the end of the world, but I'm definitely bummed that after years of painful orthodontic treatments I still don't have a smile I'm happy with -- aside from my teeth looking a bit recessed, I also have a very thin smile that doesn't show much of my teeth. However, I'm not sure that any surgeons or orthodontists would recommend me for this procedure now that my bite is technically fine (I do have issues with jaw pain/TMJ, but I'm not sure these things are related.)
Wondering if anyone here has been in a similar situation, and if so, did you end up getting surgery?

2020.11.29 02:15 RikVicious Not passing gas
I was diagnosed 1 week ago with diverticulitis. I have 3 days left on my antibiotics. I went 3 days on a liquid diet and now I'm pretty much back to eating normally. I have been passing stool, but I have not passed any gas yet. Just a lot of belching. Should I be concerned about this? I got a referral for GI but have not been able to make an appt yet. I feel almost 100% back to normal just not able to pass gas and I dont know of this is normal or not

2020.11.29 02:15 ToesyToeNails Why have vikings become so popular/romanticised?
The series Vikings, Last Kingdom, Assassin's Creed Valhalla. I keep seeing videos on YouTube about Norse mythology, vikings and Scandinavia. It isn't Scandinavia that's become popular, but 7th century Scandinavia and more specifically vikings. What caused this to explode? Why is viking the new buzzword?

2020.11.29 02:15 Lil_n05tag1a I just found the best lobby. Please read the whole thing
I joined a lobby with the name detective and asked if people wanted to be my partner and 3 people said yes. I said "we shall stick together the whole game" then one of my partners said "what if we are the Impostor." I said "We shall confess. NO dirty cops" we all agreed. the one who asked that had the name Aj69. Its a normal game and a body gets reported and since none of my partners are confessing I said we vote the 2 out standing and they were the 2 impostors. the next game Me and Aj69 get impostor so I call a meeting and confess after I get voted out Aj calls a meeting and confesses. We continue playing until Aj had to leave. Aj. If your out there my discord is cobalt_hunter201#5816. Add me if you read this. I miss you. (:

2020.11.29 02:15 paddy_boomsticks Review: Shadow Debt by William Ray
The Tales of The Verin Empire are quality self-pubbed fantasy that I feel have slipped somewhat under the radar. Ray is doing something really interesting with the series; each book is a genre pastiche. Book 1 was WWI military story, Book 2 was a noir novel, and in Book 3, Shadow Debt, Ray has turned his attention to the western. Of the three, Shadow Debt may well be my favourite, it's a most satisfying yarn.
Journalist Ned has been sent to the Rakhasin frontier, home of sweeping prairies; goblins; a boom town built on diamonds; and a most unusual female sheriff. The capital is currently being rocked by suffragist protests, and editors think the story of gun-toting Glynn Sorley will resonate with readers. But metropolitan dandy Ned may have bitten off more than he can chew: he'll need to learn to ride, help track down the infamous bandit Gentleman Jim, and then there's the matter of the Sheriff's charming sister...
All of Ray's books have a sense of playfulness that I really like. There's a metatextual element here; he's having a conversation with the genres - military, noir, western - but also interrogating some of our standard fantasy tropes at the same time. The fusion works well, and gives the books an almost sneaky depth that is belied by the more traditional (and satisfying) plotting.
Ned is a great character. Saddled with a stutter and persistent lisp, he's both proud and insecure. He's no fool, but he's also got some blind spots, and it makes him believable and likable at the same time. The other major character is not Sheriff Sorley as you might expect, but rather Gentleman Jim, a semi-tragic figure who in the opening chapter makes a bargain with a demonic six-shooter, one that haunts him for the rest of the novel. Jim's progression from horse thief to something much darker is a great piece of character development - indeed it's really the only major character development in the book.
Shadow Debt is not a large novel and the plot moves at a good clip; chapters are short and something happens in each one. This lends the book a terrific pace - I chewed it up in a couple of days - but the flip side of this is that compared to a more conventional door stopper fantasy, there's a lot left unsaid or unexamined. On the one hand, I liked this, it kept the pace up, makes the world believable, and left me hungry for more. On the other hand, there's so much good stuff in the Verin world, that I would happily spend more time with these people, this country, these stories. There are a few gaps that could have been fleshed out in more detail: other members of Jim's gang; Ned's relationship with the Sheriff's sister; and Glynn herself is mostly a cipher, a woman of action and few words. The latter is a hallmark of westerns in general, to be sure, but she could have used a bit more characterisation I thought.
My only other, minor, nitpick is that as the novel races to its' conclusion, the focus inexorably shifts away from Ned and towards Gentleman Jim. This shift is understandable - as I say, Jim gets the lion's share of character development and his arc is undeniably compelling, but I think it does somewhat of a disservice to Ned. He really needed a pivotal scene or two that demonstrated his metamorphosis as well, even if it was a more subtle one.
That all being said, I really enjoyed this book. It's a rollicking, fast paced yarn, with a voice and world that is something different in modern fantasy. In a hat-doff to his genre progenitors, Ray has also commissioned simple illustrations at the start of each chapter (Ned is more an illustrator than a journalist, and the pictures are meant to be his). I thought this was a delightful touch, and I think it says more about the novel than he might realise. The illustrations demonstrate that Ray knows, understands and appreciates the genre he is playing with, they are simple but not simplistic, they show humour, restraint, and an ability to identify what the key moment is in each chapter, and they have a sense of fast but solid construction. All of this could be said of the novel as a whole.
If you haven't read any of Ray's books, give Shadow Debt a shot - it's completely stand alone (as all books in the series are).

2020.11.29 02:15 Toads_flax I find it funny how....
When you're in 5th grade, you see yourself as the big kids of elementary school. But when you get to middle school and see elementary-schoolers, they all look like kindergarteners. Then you get the 8th grade and feel like the big kid until you get to high school. Then once you're a freshman, all middle-schoolers look like babies to you (and then you realize that some of those babies really do be having sex).
This has been happening for a long time. Now I'm a senior in high school. I bet by the time I reach the university, all high-schoolers will be looking like babies to me too (most, anyway. I've seen some of y'all out there looking like whole grown men and women already and I'm so flabbergasted).
