2020.11.25 17:49 alkalinelito Sanity Check, 230v Transformer for US Nest Hello
Hi, I'm trying to find a 230v transformer for the US nest hello (16 - 24 V AC, and at least 10 VA ) .
After reading some old posts I've seen people in Europe using a 24v 8VA transformer to power a US nest hello and it works ok (which is weird since specs says us nest hello needs 10 va) but I'm trying to find a 16v transformer so I could also use a regular doorbell chime.
Most doorbells in Uruguay (South America) are 12v , we also use 220v . So I would need a new transformer and door chime. Most electronic stores do not sell bell transformers with 16v/24v specs , also no din rail support like the one you can buy in Europe, I though about buying from Europe, but almost all 16v bell transformers are only 8 VA, like this one (more VA are usually 12v or 24v).
After searching, I finally found a 16v transformer that would seem to work, they are mostly sold here for "alarm systems", So my question is if this would work for the nest hello:
TRANSFORMADOR 16 VOLT 1.5 A ALTERNA
16 volts at 1.5 ampere is about 24 VA right ?
This is a picture of the transformer: https://i.imgur.com/oG6zfLD.png
Would that transformer work? it seems to be of Chinese origin, don't know about the quality of it

2020.11.25 17:49 Lights_Plz Will A Monitor With Optical Port Allow Me To Stream Audio?
This question is mainly for people who are streaming/recording with an Elgato and using Astros with the mixamp to capture all of the audio, but if anybody else can help that will be great.
Previously on PS4 I had the optical port and all audio would be captured in the elgato. Now that there is no optical port in the PS5 I am unable to capture all audio when recording/streaming. My question is that do I need the adapter or would a monitor work too? I know if I get the adapter everything goes back as it was with PS4 and all audio will be captured. I want to know if that would be the case with a monitor that has an optical port too? Would all audio (Game, Chat, Party chat, etc.) be captured if I plug the mixamp in the monitor?
If that is possible I'd rather put the adapter toward getting a new monitor as mine is currently only 60hz and would like to upgrade anyway.

2020.11.25 17:49 pigspoon41 Question about Orbi
I had been getting really good speeds of 600 - 800 mpbs down, while directly connected through a LAN connection coming from my ATT Router. I have the Orbi also hooked up to the ATT Router (which is the one directly connected to the wall (it's a fiber connection). I used to get really good speeds with the Orbi too, and that includes the satellites. It was somewhere around 200 - 400mpbs. But suddenly, my LAN connection is giving barely over 175mpbs and from the Orbi I'm getting maybe 100. My wife's laptop sometimes only gets 10 - 20mpbs, other times, maybe 80ish (she is on the Orbi network).
I tried troubleshooting with ATT, but they keep telling me it's not their router. Their speed tests are just fine on their end, and that's got to be something wrong on my end. They kept saying it must have been my router. So, I went into the ATT router which I had turned off the WiFi for both channels and saw that somehow they were turned on again. I figured that would certainly cause some issues, but we were still always connected through the Orbi. They swear it's my router. I power cycled both the ATT and Orbi routers already.
Can anyone help out here? Is it possible for a LAN connection to suddenly drop a few hundred mpbs? The same for the Orbi. All of the Orbi settings look ok, both the 2 and 5 channels seem to be working fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

2020.11.25 17:49 DG_1194 Why would he add me back on Snapchat? Should I accept it?
I was in a beach condo earlier last week because of my bday. I was there Mon- Wed, the guy wishes me happy bday on Monday but does not follow up while I’m on vacation. He views my snap stories yet failed to check in. When I texted him wed, he stated that he wanted to give me space while I was on bday vacation & likes me. He texted me Mon & called too, I did not return his missed call Monday & played it off like I never received his voicemail. Thurs, I texted him in the Morning & he did not reply until the evening time. Stating that he took off work to pick his family up from the airport & was busy driving them around. Then 2 hours later, sends a follow up text to see if I’m still here. While, he does not text me for the whole day and expects me to reply right away? I did not reply to his texts from Thursday evening until noon Friday. He replied about an hr after and told me that he’s been busy but always attempts to respond promptly. He took a while to respond so I can see how it feels when I take a while to reply to him. He stated that he’s had it with my long response time and feels it’s best that we no longer waste each other’s time. I did not even reply, he wants nothing to do with me.
He removes me from Snapchat & adds me back today. If he even plans to say anything, maybe he added me on accident. I added him back but he’s only viewed my story. It’s odd he’s added me when he can clearly text me directly instead. I’m going to give it a few days. If I don’t hear back I will block him.

2020.11.25 17:49 chrischi3 Is there a way how i can block one specific type of ad?
So, this website ive been active on for a while now recently started showing pop up ads. Ive been fine with turning my adblocker off on that particular site because so far, their ads have been unintrusive, but ads that cover up UI are pretty much the opposite of that.
Now, i could turn my blocker on (I found a way to block their "Please turn off your Adblocker" thing, which is really unusual that i had to do that, since most sites dont even detect uBlock in my experience) but i dont want to have to block everything just for the pop ups to disappear. So, is there a way how i can tell uBlock "These ads are fine, but these ones arent"?

2020.11.25 17:49 insertphilosophyhere Lecture Prof. Jim Secord (Cambridge) "Against [Scientific] Revolutions"
All are cordially invited to the third (online) meeting of the History of Knowledge Seminar Series @ Utrecht University and the lecture by prof. Jim Secord (University of Cambridge) on Thursday 26 November 2020, 15:30-17:00 (UTC+1).
Bringing together leading scholars of both older and younger generations with different backgrounds and approaches, this bimonthly seminar series explores the past, present and future of the promising new scholarly field of the history of knowledge. More than just an overview of state-of-the-art research, it offers an opportunity to join the process of historiography in the making.
The series is organized by Lukas Verburgt and Elske de Waal, with the support of the Descartes Centre, Utrecht. See www.historyofknowledge.nl for more information and the full 2020-2021 program.
Thursday 26 November 2020 15:30-17:00 (UTC+1) Online (Teams)
Abstract: “Despite cogent critiques, the long-durée history of science continues to be understood in public discussion largely as a sequence of conceptual revolutions. The Scientific Revolution, which has had something of a revival during the past decade, is seen to have been followed by Chemical, Darwinian, Einsteinian, Plate Tectonics and other dramatic upheavals. The durability of revolutionary assumptions is not surprising, for the ‘Scientific Revolution’ originated not in the Cold War era as is usually assumed, but in American school and university textbooks in the wake of the First World War. The ambiguous attitude of historians towards this legacy is summed up by Steve Shapin’s famous opening to his 1996 survey, ‘There was no such thing as the Scientific Revolution, and this is a book about it.’
This compromise, which advertises science as ‘revolutionary’ while simultaneously disavowing the implications of such a view, is no longer sustainable. A focus on revolutionary changes within science involves a displacement, in which epistemic violence occurs within scientific communities rather than through the colonial and imperial encounters in which knowledge was forged. This is damaging both to the reputation of contemporary science (which is currently under attack anyway) and to understandings of the place of science in history. It has only gradually become possible, for example, to see the conquest of the Americas in the 1500s and the emergence of colonial empires in the 1800s as key episodes in the simultaneous emergence of Western power and scientific forms of enquiry. The narratives of resistance, exchange and subjugation involved in these new stories are rapidly providing an alternative—important for engaging audiences and suggesting new research questions—but they cannot be maintained simply by adapting the old historiography.”
