I have no job experience, part-time or full-time. No idea how to be independent and I'm worried what I should do. I don't know when I have to leave mt house (my parents probably don't mind if I stay until my early 20s but I still want to move out). I'm in 11th grade this year and planning to take college after graduation (in 12th grade ofc). What are some things I need to know? Apartment/renting, bills, jobs, etc. I'm literally lost right now and I don't know what to do.

Hello everyone, I’m working on a renovation project at home. Just trying to get the ole man cave more soundproof without breaking the bank.
Basically, after doing all the drywall, framing, electrical etc... In the last leg of the project I decided to swapped out my cheap flimsy hollow core door with a substantially heavier, 1 3/4” thick 80x36” composite solid core door. I’m sure the thing weighs like 80lbs so I decided to spring for beefier hinges. I went and purchased three 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 ball bearing hinges, but as I went to mortise them in I noticed the knuckles would protruded pretty far out, not good.
Seeing as I decided to go for a caseless look, and spent too much time mitering aluminum shadow reveal trims with a hack saw and a speed square, I’d rather not have >3/4” of hinge sticking out. Soss hinges would be cool, but budget.
My questions are as follows:
- Is the amount of hinge showing an intentional design as per manufacturecode or is it personal preference? It’s my understanding that the protrusion of the hinges changes the pivot point just enough to allow for the door to clear the strike(?)/latch(?) jamb with little issue, although I’m not sure to what extent that’s true. I could be wrong, but does that also mean that by bringing the throw(?) closer to the door I’d have to bevel the latch side of the door by a few degrees? Or is beveling moreso dependent on clearances?
- Looking at the hinges, I can route a mortise straight through without leaving a 1/4” backset and it would pretty much butt the knuckles up against the door, but as this isn’t my trade, I’m not sure how acceptable that is, or if there are other reasons beyond aesthetics that I’m unaware of. My question is basically how important is the backset measurement?
- Because I’m not using any casing and the face of the door will be flush with the wall, nor will the door need to open more than 120 degrees does that give me freedom to say: return the three 4 1/2” hinges and use four 3” or 3 1/2” hinges instead? Would I run into the problem of needing to bevel?
Sorry for the wordy post, I’m hoping one of you fine craftsfolk can help me understand some of these burning questions I have. If you made it through to the end then I appreciate you taking the time out to read all of this.
