The Church of Ireland has apologised for the role it played in "Shaping a society" in which unmarried women and their children were stigmatised.
In a joint statement, Church of Ireland Primate Archbishop John McDowell and Archbishop of Dublin Michael Jackson said they acknowledged "With shame" that members of the Church of Ireland were "Complicit as with the rest of society at that time, in a culture of hypocrisy and judgement which stigmatised women and children and endangered their health and well-being".
The archbishops were responding to the publication on Tuesday of the Commission of Investigation's report into mother and baby homes.
The archbishops said the report "Sheds light" on the "Shocking and disturbing" suffering of women and children who found themselves with nowhere else to go to but these homes.
They paid tribute to the former residents of the homes and others who had focused society's attention on mother and baby homes.
"The report seeks to understand the injustices endured, and also recognises the difficulties faced by those who ran the homes in a society that often did not want to know or to help, and in a State that did not help enough."

2021.01.15 19:02 EkariKeimei Bitcoin meta on cycles (sorry, not a meme but actual discussion)
I know memes get the upvotes, but I want to actually discuss the theory a little bit more.
We've seen cycles of peak and drop, and that these reflect a lot of patterns that other markets have historically seen as public awareness and the ignorant invest without understanding. But I want to understand some of the other cycles as well.
People have repeatedly described:
- BTC dropping in Spring/summer months, rising in Fall/winter
- BTC increasing incredibly 6-15 months after a halvening
- Whales scooping up at dips
Second, I see the purported evidence for 1 and 2 (looking at graphs over time show this happens, but not what is the cause necessarily), but I don't see the evidence for 3. What is the evidence for 3?
Third, what are proposed explanations for these phenomena?
3 makes sense, in that if you have money to move BTC and you have great AI/machine-learning you can buy sell with better prediction than humans can. I would probably do this if I had the tech and the money. It doesn't surprise me.
Anyone have articles that explain (1) the spring/summer drop? My hunch is that it is a combination of:
- market correction (people over-invested and need to pull out)
- fewer miners (cost of electricity increases)
- vacations (opportunity cost of investing in btc, less price checking, less workplace discussion, etc.)
- Demand stays same or increases, but the supply has bottlenecked
- Discussion of BTC comes back into public consciousness, since "What's the halvening?" grabs everyone's attention again, which starts a snowball effect of interest and discussion and (you guessed it) investment
Part of the reason for this discussion is that there are excellent reasons to hodl for another 4+ years, even if you see a drop in price now (for weeks, or even months), given the cyclical nature of the price and the upward trend in the long run. Where will you be in 8 years? I imagine the ATH in 8 years will be 7 figures. But that doesn't mean invest everything you can spare now. We should really temper our FOMO with the calm realization that comes with thinking ahead, and whether we are in a crest, trough, or on the way to one of them. (IMHO: I think we are heading to a trough that won't go below 5 figures, but that's just me)

I would like to stay in the Ubiquiti family... but after my initial attempts to run the vpn on the USG it seems that Ubiquiti isn’t ready to support this setup. pfSense looks like the answer?
