2021.01.25 12:54 ThatsMyThing Is it normal not being able to remember big parts of your life?
I'm a 26 year old woman (and not a native english speaker, so bear with me). My short term memory is fine, but I seem to be inable to form memories of events, even big ones, in my life. Thing is, I think I ruined my memory on semi-purpose. I had bad social anxiety from late childhood/early adolescence. You know those embarrassing memories that keep you up at night? That was every interaction during those years. A big part of me "coming out of my shell" was my admirable, but maybe misguided, choice to let the past be the past. "No one's gonna remember" I told myself. "Get over it". But now I don't remember.
My teenage years were not great, but I've worked so hard on forgetting the bad that I don't remember any of the good. I know it's not just the fact that years have gone by. I remember two years ago just as vaguely as i remember ten. It's as if as soon as I feel like an era is over, I erase it from my memory. Middle school, high school, relationships, memories of people that are no longer in my life. I'm always impressed when people remember names of teachers they had in school or street names in the town they grew up in, even though that's normal, as it was a big part of their lives for many years. Things like that has no sentimental value to me, but I wish it did. I have no pictures, nothing to remember those years by, and I've done it all on purpose.
I can have conversations with friends and family, people I've known for years, and when they bring up things we've done together, reminiscing on shared memories I just... don't recall. I have a very hard time remembering details about people, I don't even remember when my own dad's birthday is. I feel like I don't know anyone, because everything I learn about them simply doesn't stick. But I want to remember! I wanna feel nostalgic! I wanna know people intimately, and I want them to make a lasting impression on me.
Is there a way to get a better long term memory? Not for little details, but for forming memories in general. Thank you!

Theory:
- Online anti-social behaviors are mostly much different from the real life ones. Online social activities are usually related to a lower level of intelligence and social ability.
- Online anti-social behaviors are related to the trolls' unhappy real life. They enjoy the feeling of being superior to the people that they attack which their real life fail to offer. So theoretically speaking, the more unconfident, insecure a person feels in his life, the more likely that he will choose to be a hater; the more he considers himself a failure consciously or unconsciously, the more he'd spread the hate.
- As you can see from the point 2, through trolling, trolls are actually turning their deep hatred and disgust to themselves onto the outer world. So basically they don't care who they troll to, the victims are mostly randomly picked.
- A troll is usually a deeply hidden eager for attention. And as you can see the behavior is similar to what a child/teenager would do in order to get attention from his care keepers. Saying exaggerated words to start a fight in order to draw attention to themselves, usually this need deep inside of a hater's subconsciousness is not realized by himself, and would tend to be not admitted once pointed out.
- Unfortunately, haters will never get what they want through hating. They might feel satisfied after "winning" a battle, but since spreading negativity, turning self-disgust and hatred to the outer world will not only reduce it but will reinforce itself and in the end causing a vicious circle that might end up causing more serious mental problems.
- Study shows that men tend to troll more than women. In an experiment trying to find out the connection between trolling and gender, researchers found that men were 43.7%more likely to troll compared to women.
Practice:
So how do we deal with trolls:
- Trolls mostly are a representation of deep hidden self-dust, self-hatred. Therefore instead of feeling irritated we should try to lay our mercy on their miserable being.
- Trolls can be a result of lower intelligence level of normality. I think I don't need to explain this point. May God bless them.
- When they shout at you that you are an attention seeker it might be that they themselves are attention seekers, but don't argue with them since they will never admit it.
- When trolling, a hater will never show his vulnerable side to avoid getting attacked so don't expect them to admit that they are weak or wrong. It's impossible. But this way you can see that the more they are trying to hide or refuse these two points the more they feel insecure about themselves. So let's just lay our pity on their hurt little hearts.
- When you "lose" the battle you might feel upset about letting them win. But as mentioned they will never get what they deeply need trough doing things in a negative way. So they will never win, unless they stop trolling.
- May God bless their miserable life. As you can see, a person living a happy life won't have the reason to spread hatred. So the more trolling he is the more miserable a hater's life can be.

When I plug in my controller it says "wired fight pad pro for nintendo switch (3695/389) not configured". It used to always work automatically pre-hack, but unfortunately I got a new laptop recently running Catalina (my previous one was running High Sierra - not sure if relevant) and I had to reinstall everything from scratch. I tried settings > input > port controls, but I can't map any buttons because retroarch isn't picking up the button presses. I'm wondering if this is due to missing config files and what I can do to fix this (I feel I should also point out that I'm not well versed in this kinda thing and a lot of what I read goes straight over my head). I also have a problem with the Dolphin core - but I'm not sure if i should create a separate post for that.
